With two hectic days of windsurfing it was nice to wake to light winds and sunshine:) Our plan was to go for a short bike ride to the Ferry for breakfast, so we made a flask, heated our chocolate croissants and left home at ten. Heading down to the prom we stopped and looked at the massive crane on the site where the pier once stood - it is being replaced with a new building but sadly the actual pier out over the sea is not being renovated so there will be no access over the sea - a great opportunity once again missed by Felixstowe:(
We continued along the busy prom to the end and on to The Dip, past the golf course to our favourite spot by the River Deben where the only boat to pass our breakfast spot was a small fishing boat. After a half hour break we continued to the jetty which was nice in the bright sunshine:)
It was too nice a day to go home so we headed along the new path to Kingsfleet. On the way we met our old friend, a birdwatcher, on his bike. We hadn't seen him for ages so stopped and had a lovely chat with him. There were birds everywhere, with large flocks of geese and swans grazing in the winter wheat! We biked past the Fleet and were greeted by a herd of sheep who ran over towards us to feed.
We carried on to Trimley along quiet country lanes, crossing the level crossing down towards Trimley Marshes but turning left around by the dock. We stopped at the view point seat which has now been cleared of shrubbery so you can see the action on the dock. You have to cross two level crossing on the dock railway, then through the docks to Landguard Reserve and the River Orwell which was beautiful:) No coal about so we cycled along the prom watching the big crane moving some large steel around, then up the hill home.
What a top bike ride, three hours in the sunshine covering over 17 miles, then a late lunch. We had a quick walk up to town which was in full festive spirit as the lights are being switched on tonight:) It was then a rugby fest with the highlight being a hard fought win by England over Argentina:)
